Went to see The Guardian on Sunday not the greatest movie in the world. Some parts could of been more dramatic and made more intense, but i still enjoyed it.
In the movie, Kevin Costner was teaching a bunch of new recruits on what it means to be a rescue swimmer for the US Coast Guard. And the motto for the rescue swimmers is "so others may live". "so others may live"...what does that even mean to you? Because to them it means to always be ready to put their own lives in danger to help others and to ultimately die so others do not have to. In the movie, it also talks about how the individuals couldn't really carry out their own lives because they were so occupy with their jobs.
This motto not only became a way of life for them. Imagine if it was for yours. Every decision you make does not depend on your own wants and needs, but somebody else's, someone you don't even know. To always be willing to sacrifice your time whether for studying or working or entertainment, and give it up because someone needs your help.
In the christian context, what happens if that someone was God. And that every decision we make depends on his desires and his plan. The decisions we make will ultimately affect whether others live or not.
During their training, the hardest lesson for the recruits to learn was that they cannot save them all but they are to save as many as possible.
